The names of the new pay commission’s chairman and members have not yet been finalized by the government. Pankaj Choudhary, the Minister of State for Finance, informed the Rajya Sabha that the official announcement about the 8th Central Pay Commission would be made in due time. He was answering a query posed by MP Javed Ali Khan of the Samajwadi Party.

In response to a query in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, August 12, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary stated that on January 17 and February 17, 2025, letters were sent to all states, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the Ministry of Defense, and the Ministry of Home Affairs to solicit feedback on the Terms of Reference. “Inputs are still being received,” he added. Thus, at the proper moment, the formal notification will be sent out. Following the government’s release of the 8th Pay Commission’s announcement, the chairman and members will be chosen. Regarding the timing for the commission’s formation, the Union Minister stated that the appointments will be made after the notification is sent “at the proper time.”

Pay Increase under the 8th Pay Commission update

The official announcement of the 8th Pay Commission is eagerly anticipated by over 1 crore central government employees and pensioners. The fitting factor may be approved by the government between 1.8 and 2.86, according to media reports. Employees and pensioners of the central government will have their pay and pension increases determined by the fitment factor. Central government workers receive a minimum basic wage of Rs 18,000 under the 7th Pay Commission, while retirees receive a minimum basic pension of Rs 9,000. Additionally, under the Seventh Pay Commission, they receive DA/DR at a rate of 55%.

New Salary Potential

With a 1.8 fitting factor,

Employees’ new minimal base wage is Rs 32,400.

Rs 16,200 is the new minimum basic pension for retirees.

The new minimum basic salary for employees is Rs 51,480, with a fitment factor of 2.86.

Rs 25,740 is the new minimum basic pension for retirees.

However, upon the adoption of the 8th Pay Commission, DA/DR will be zero.
