Mahindra has revealed the Mahindra Vision T concept SUV, previewing the upcoming Thar EV. Built on the new NU_IQ modular platform, the electric SUV is expected to launch by 2027 with rugged design, modern features, and off-road capability.
Mahindra & Mahindra has unveiled the Vision T concept SUV at its Freedom NU event on Independence Day, August 15. This new concept is seen as the next step for the Thar family, following the Thar.e concept showcased in 2023. With the Thar 3-Door and Thar Roxx already available in petrol and diesel versions, the Vision T strongly points toward a fully electric Thar EV, expected to hit the market by 2027.
Mahindra Vision T New Platform – NU_IQ Architecture
The Vision T is built on Mahindra’s brand-new NU_IQ modular monocoque platform, which is designed to support multiple powertrains including petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric. It also allows flexibility in vehicle size and can be configured as either front-wheel-drive (FWD) or all-wheel-drive (AWD).

Dimensions & Practicality
The SUV is likely to measure just over 4.3 metres in length with a 2,665 mm wheelbase, placing it close to the size of the Thar Roxx. The extended wheelbase means more space for second-row passengers, and Mahindra claims the concept offers the best-in-segment 10.3-metre turning radius, making it easier to manoeuvre.
Mahindra Vision T: Electric Powertrain Likely
While Mahindra hasn’t shared full technical details yet, the Vision T is expected to debut as an EV. Since the Thar Roxx already serves the ICE (petrol/diesel) market, an electric Thar fits perfectly with Mahindra’s multi-energy strategy. The EV could use an LFP battery pack, possibly the same unit as in the upcoming BE 6 and XEV 9e models. With AWD support, the Thar EV will also feature proper off-road capabilities.
Design Similarities with Thar Roxx
The Vision T carries forward several familiar Thar design elements, such as:
- Split front grille with horizontal slats
- Clamshell bonnet with visible latches
- Flared wheel arches
- Tailgate-mounted spare wheel
Other noticeable features include the quarter glass design, rear door handle placement, and exposed door hinges, all of which connect it to the Thar Roxx’s rugged identity.
