Tata Motors set a new EV sales record in July 2025, selling 7,124 electric cars. However, overall passenger vehicle sales fell 12% due to weaker ICE demand.
Tata Motors has released its passenger vehicle sales data for July 2025, revealing a mixed performance. While the company set a new monthly record for electric vehicle (EV) sales, a dip in demand for its internal combustion engine (ICE) models led to an overall decline in domestic sales.
In total, Tata sold 39,521 passenger cars in India during July 2025. This figure includes both EVs and ICE vehicles and represents a 12% decline compared to July 2024, when the company delivered 44,725 units. That’s a drop of 5,204 vehicles year-on-year.
On the brighter side, EV sales showed strong growth. Tata Motors sold 7,124 electric vehicles globally in July 2025, including domestic and export markets. This marks a 42% increase over the same period last year. The surge reflects Tata’s rising dominance in the EV segment.
Although the newly launched Harrier.ev wasn’t a major contributor in July due to deliveries beginning only recently, Tata has a strong order backlog of about 10,000 units for the model. With production expected to ramp up soon, the Harrier.ev could significantly boost EV sales in the coming months.
Exports also showed impressive growth. Tata exported 654 cars in July 2025, up from 229 units in July 2024. That’s a 186% year-on-year jump, even though exports remain a small part of Tata’s total business.
Taking both domestic and export sales into account, Tata delivered a total of 40,175 passenger vehicles in July 2025. This compares to 44,954 units sold in July 2024 — a drop of 4,779 vehicles or roughly 11%.
